I think the first time I saw Alan on TV was on Fox news channel. This was back in 1997 and He (Alan), and Sean Hannity were going at it! I don't have to tell anyone that I am a conservative who happens to be Jewish, but for full disclosure "there it is". I never had the privilege of knowing Alan personally, but I tried never to miss He and Sean go at it on Hannity and Colmes. The BIBLE says that Iron sharpens Iron and I must say that after sharing an hour each night with Alan for all those years, Hannity must be really sharp by now! I have always enjoyed watching Alan debate on behalf of the liberal cause because he was loyal to his cause. And you know what? I unfortunately can't say that about many in the media these days! I new that even if Alan did not agree with his debate opponent, He believed in their right to state their case.
I could never bring myself to believe in Alan's politics but I always believed in Alan. You could depend on him to be the same and that made watching him debate anyone even more fun. We at Down Home Shalom want to express our profound sympathy and sorrow to Alan's wife Jocelyn Crowley and Family for their loss as well as to Alan's other family at the FOX News channel. With Respect, A.J., Ira, Brian and crew Down Home Shalom

The following was written by Ben Stein and recited by him
on CBS Sunday Morning Commentary. My confession: I am a Jew, and every single one of my ancestors was Jewish. And it does not bother me even a little bit when people call those beautiful lit up, bejeweled trees, and Christmas trees. I don't feel threatened. I don't feel discriminated against. That's what they are, Christmas trees. It doesn't bother me a bit when people say, 'Merry Christmas' to me. I don't think they are slighting me or getting ready to put me in a ghetto. In fact, I kind of like it. It shows that we are all brothers and sisters celebrating this happy time of year. It doesn't bother me at all that there is a manger scene on display at a key intersection near my beach house in Malibu. If people want a crèche, it's just as fine with me as is the Menorah a few hundred yards away. I don't like getting pushed around for being a Jew, and I don't think Christians like getting pushed around for being Christians. I think people who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed around, period.. I have no idea where the concept came from, that America is an explicitly atheist country. I can't find it in the Constitution and I don't like it being shoved down my throat.. Or maybe I can put it another way: where did the idea come from that we should worship celebrities and we aren't allowed to worship God as we understand Him? I guess that's a sign that I'm getting old, too. But there are a lot of us who are wondering where these celebrities came from and where the America we knew went to. In light of the many jokes we send to one another for a laugh, this is a little different: This is not intended to be a joke; it's not funny, it's intended to get you thinking. Billy Graham's daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson asked her 'How could God let something like this happen?' (regarding Hurricane Katrina).. Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response. She said, 'I believe God is deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but for years we've been telling God to get out of our schools, to get out of our government and to get out of our lives.. And being the gentleman He is, I believe He has calmly backed out. How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if we demand He leave us alone?' In light of recent events... terrorists attack, school shootings, etc. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare (she was murdered, her body found a few years ago) complained she didn't want prayer in our schools, and we said OK. Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school. The Bible says thou shalt not kill; thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself. And we said OK. Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they misbehave, because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr. Spock's son committed suicide). We said an expert should know what he's talking about. And we said okay. Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves.. Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out. I think it has a great deal to do with 'WE REAP WHAT WE SOW.' Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell. Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says. Funny how you can send 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire, but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing. Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace. Are you laughing yet? Funny how when you forward this message, you will not send it to many on your address list because you're not sure what they believe, or what they will think of you for sending it. Funny how we can be more worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks of us. Pass it on if you think it has merit. If not, then just discard it..... no one will know you did. But, if you discard this thought process, don't sit back and complain about what bad shape the world is in. My Best Regards, Honestly and respectfully, Ben Stein (Jew) By: Ira Goldberg
I know a man from Springfield Massachusetts who was speeding along the Massachusetts Turnpike which is Interstate 90.. Somehow he got the speed limit and the interstate number mixed up and was traveling down the road at 90 miles an hour instead of the posted speed of 65. Well he passed a state trooper who pulled him over and promptly issued him a ticket and an invitation to appear before the judge the following month. For an entire month the man was wondering what will happen to him...will he lose his license..will he get so many points that he will not be able to make a similar mistake again..."what do you think the judge will do to me" is all he asked everyone he met. Well court day came and he was was very nervous about standing before the judge and hearing what sentence he will hand down. It always amazes me how nervous we get when its time to appear before an earthly judge and how little concern we have about appearing before our heavenly Judge, GOD himself. When every sin ever committed is brought to the persons attention and GOD hands down his decision that the person must spend eternity in Hell because his sins were never cleansed by the blood of Yeshua. As a believer in Yeshua(Jesus) i don't have fear about appearing before the JUDGE since i have an advocate an attorney who happens to be the son of the Judge. HIS name is Yeshua. He will tell the father to forgive my sins and that the penalty was paid for my him for my sins..the penalty paid over 2000 years ago on the cursed tree(the cross). The man paid a fine and received three points. which is nothing compared to what GOD the Judge will do.. Think about this my friends..before you go any further down the highway of life take this opportunity to ask Yeshua into your life. Admit your sins and ask him to forgive your sins. Then when you finally get to meet the Judge HE will see the blood of his SON and all charges will be dropped. By: Ira Goldberg
There has been coverage about cities of refuge. You know the cities...New York City, Chicago San Francisco and others. These liberal cities are set aside for people who broke the law and need to find a city where they will not be punished for their crimes and get to walk the streets with impunity. President Donald Trump is promising (many think threatening) to cut funding to cities that house law breakers, murderers, and illegal aliens. If you have done evil there are cities just waiting to welcome you. When the GOD of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is removed from society we get these types of cities of refuge. The Bible tells us when man turns away from GOD HE will let leave them to their own ways. When man is given his own ways we get these types of cities of refuge. What was the city refuge supposed to look like according to the Bible? Let's take a look. Joshua 20 NIV - Cities of Refuge - Then the LORD said - Bible GatewayJoshua 20New International Version (NIV)Cities of Refuge20 Then the Lord said to Joshua: 2 “Tell the Israelites to designate the cities of refuge, as I instructed you through Moses, 3 so that anyone who kills a person accidentally and unintentionally may flee there and find protection from the avenger of blood. 4 When they flee to one of these cities, they are to stand in the entrance of the city gate and state their case before the elders of that city. Then the elders are to admit the fugitive into their city and provide a place to live among them. 5 If the avenger of blood comes in pursuit, the elders must not surrender the fugitive, because the fugitive killed their neighbor unintentionally and without malice aforethought. 6 They are to stay in that city until they have stood trial before the assembly and until the death of the high priest who is serving at that time. Then they may go back to their own home in the town from which they fled.” 7 So they set apart Kedesh in Galilee in the hill country of Naphtali, Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron) in the hill country of Judah. 8 East of the Jordan (on the other side from Jericho) they designated Bezer in the wilderness on the plateau in the tribe of Reuben, Ramoth in Gilead in the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan in the tribe of Manasseh. 9 Any of the Israelites or any foreigner residing among them who killed someone accidentally could flee to these designated cities and not be killed by the avenger of blood prior to standing trial before the assembly. We are the exact opposite of the Bible. When we oppose the Bible, which is GOD's word. GOD gave us a chance to come back to HIM. President Trump will unfund the unholy cities of refuge. We need to support our President and get the United States back in GOD's good graces By: Ira Goldberg
Mary had a little lamb. It's fleece as white as snow. Everywhere that Mary went the lamb was sure to go. It followed her to school one day which was against the rule...... We all learned this nursery rhyme back in grade school or even before. I see the lamb being Yeshua(Jesus) our Lamb. Mary is Yeshua's Mother Mary. Everywhere that Mary went the lamb was sure to go. Those of us who believe in the Lamb know everywhere we go Yeshua goes with us. My mom a Jewish woman who did not want to hear about Yeshua would tell me.. "son you are welcome here anytime..but please leave Jesus home..don't bring him in my house". I would explain that Yeshua and his Holy Spirit inside me and where I go the Lamb is sure to go. The most interesting line in the rhyme is the lamb followed her to school one day which was against the rule. The rhyme was published for the first time in 1834. In 2017 there are laws forbidding the Lamb in school. Schools could expel students for praying to the Lamb...holding bible studies..or turning in papers about the Lamb...reading the Bible. I have been listening to the Down Home Shalom shows from 8 years ago. I find it very interesting and disturbing that news about Israel back in 2008 are the same news stories today all these years later. Bombings...land for peace...etc..Same with the nursery rhyme.. the lamb was not allowed in the schools then and the Lamb is not allowed in schools today. I am very sadden. By AJ Sizemore
Everyday we turn on the TV and hear news of our border with Mexico. I, like you, am just a regular citizen with an opinion. The trouble is, that my elected officials don’t want to hear my opinion-they want to tell me my opinion. As a believer in Jesus let me say this first, this country is built on immigration! We are a Judeo-Christian Republic and I realize this. All I’m saying is YES come on in! Just make sure you sign the guestbook on arrival, work hard when you get here and PAY YOUR TAXES! All of us have stories passed down about how we got here and the struggles that were endured by our fore-bearers. I think that we should give these illegals proper medical attention, feed them, clothe them and send them back home! I think that we should contact these central American countries and warn them that we will reduce or stop the aid that we send them until they stem the tide of the exodus from their countries into ours! I think we should treat these illegals humanely and fly them home! We should ask that these central American governments run TV ads showing the hardships, murders, rapes and other abuses that their own countrymen are enduring just in making the trip here! I watched a news interview with border agents and land owners in Texas saying that they are finding the dead bodies of illegals (half eaten by scavenger animals) on their property almost daily! They are burying these bodies in unmarked graves because they can’t be identified anyway. I think it’s time that we started trying to save the lives of these people before they risk their lives by attempting to get to America illegally! The drug and human traffickers (coyotes), are stealing these people’s money and many times these people’s lives with lie after lie of how easy it will be to get here. We are presently flying them all over OUR country placing them here and there. If we can do that, then we can fly them home with a warning to the respective countries from which they came that we will send them home and cut off your aid if you don’t act to stem the tide and protect your own people. I think that we should secure our borders with the National guard, Coast guard, Navy and a re-invigorated and expanded Border Patrol. We are a sovereign country and have every right to say who can cross our borders! That’s what I think-what do you think? By AJ Sizemore
Most of you know that I’m from Chicago, Illinois but I will say to my dying day I LOVE SOUTH CAROLINA! And I’m glad to say South Carolina has always loved me back. I live in the rural region of the upstate, where the men are men and one or two women look like they are! I’m kidding, just kidding! Now back to my thought. My dad was from South Carolina and after WWII, he moved to Chicago to find work. Now when dad retired, he came back home to live his remaining years (and that’s how I got here). The other day I was channel surfing and found a documentary about the Civil War (we call it the War of Northern Aggression), hosted by Dick Morris. Morris worked in the Clinton White House years ago. Mr. Morris narration at first seemed benign but then he started talking about how the brutal South was filled with abusive slave owners and how we southerners tried to smooth over our wrongdoings against the Union during the reconstruction with various appeasement efforts (selling each other out)! Morris went on to say that the Carpet baggers (named after the luggage these men traveled with), were not thieves, cheats and land grabbers! Oh No, says Morris, they were missionaries, ethical businessmen, social workers and otherwise Godly men who came South to show us the error of our ways and help the newly freed blacks secure their place in the “New South”! My own family lost land to these so-called carpet bagging missionaries! I noticed no mention of all those northern slave owners or the fact that here in the south, slave ownership was already starting to weigh on our collective conscience as a bad and sinful thing. Also, no mention that the war did not actually start because of slavery but in truth because of secession due to Federal interference in State government. Slavery was an issue used by the North to justify the invasion of one state by another. No wonder (according to Morris), Bill Clinton once grabbed him by the shoulders and knocked him down! All I have to say to Mr. Morris is this, please see for yourself just how many of the 55 men that signed the Declaration of Independence were Southern. Oh, and when you listen to the old recorded radio transmissions from America’s early space flights, test flights and even the moon landings, you hear loud and clear that good ole southern accent! The South has always and will always produce local, state and world leaders, it’s who we are. One more thing Mr. Morris, If you don’t like the south then stay away, we don’t need you around anyhow. As a young man, when I was told we were moving here, the first thing I did was learn to fish and swim! I got me a fishing pole from Sears and fished the Belmont harbor until I could cast with the best of ’em. Then I went to the YMCA and learned to swim. I grew up on Dad’s stories of the south and I was a faithful fan of the Andy Griffith show. I wanted to keep up with those southern country boys! Dad and Mom bought a house in a nice subdivision and we settled in. When I started school, BOOM almost none of my new friends could hunt, fish or swim. Years later and after I married the best girl I’d ever seen (a native South Carolinian), I told her what happened when I first got here and she just laughed! She told me those were city boys kinda like me- she wasn’t making sense to me and she thought that was funny too! She explained that those boys lived in a subdivision, not a farm and not the mountains!, (my wife is from up above Travelers Rest near the Dark Corners-another story). Finally, that mystery was solved and she was right (as usual). Now, most everybody I know hunts and fishes, our kids and grandkids swim together and life is good. I for one am thankful to GOD that our great nation survived the Civil War in tact. What other nation could have saved the world as many times as we have? What other nation could have done so much to advance so many technologies the way that we have? I saw a bumper sticker that describes just how I feel and it reads-Proud American by birth and Southern by the grace of GOD! If this great nation ever decided to move our nation’s capitol again, I think it makes sense to move it to South Carolina! That’s what I think, what do you think? By AJ Sizemore
I think that Israel has endured attacks from the Palestinian held areas for far too long! Israel deals with constant missile attacks from Hamas to the point where many Israelis live in the bomb shelters and only visit their homes. For any of you that question Israel’s right to the land, read the BIBLE or at the very least look up the Balfour Declaration! I think we should (as a Nation), remember that our great country was founded on Judea-Christian values and we should stand with Israel and not tolerate ANY of our leaders that take a stand against Israel lest we draw the wrath of GOD on ourselves! I think that Hamas hides weapons and war materials in civilians areas to force Israel to fire on these places. This (dishonestly), serves Hamas by making Israel appear to be an uncaring murderous aggressor! The leadership of Hamas and the Muslim brotherhood is an evil band of self serving murderous thugs and the only thing they will ever understand is FORCE! I think it is time to rid ourselves of them once and for all. I think Hamas should stop hiding rockets in the private homes, schools and hospitals of their citizens! This is what is meant by the term “human shields!” This way, at least Israel would not be forced to fire on Hamas in areas where civilians might be injured. Did you know that before Israel fires on an area that they drop leaflets, fire dummy “thumper” bombs and even try to phone civilians and warn them to leave the area?! When would the American military ever hide behind our wives and children to protect itself?! It is obvious to me that those that follow Islam do not place the same value on life that we here do. It’s time that we as Americans let Israel know that we stand with her no matter what an inept, feckless administration says now or in the future! That’s what I think, what do you think? |
